Manassas Civil War History
In August of 1861, the first major land battle of the American Civil War (the First Battle of Bull Run) was fought at nearby Manassas Junction. Following the war, Manassas was incorporated in 1873. Later in 1892, it replaced Brentsville as Prince William County's seat. Ultimately, in 1975, Manassas became an independent city, and as of the 2000 census, the Manassas population was 35,135.
