Plans for Springfield include a major renovation to the Springfield Mall. This new development will be known as the Springfield Town Center, and will house popular retailers, offices, a hotel, and more than 2,000 new homes. This mixed-use complex will be built over several years, with the goal of creating a "true metropolitan community." In the meantime, there is excellent shopping in Springfield, including Macy's, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Whole Foods Market.
Springfield also has natural attractions such as Hidden Pond Nature Center, and Accotink Park, with its 55-acre lake, protected wetlands, and a 3.75-mile trail. Residents enjoy fishing, boating, hiking and picnicking in the area.
Another benefit of living in Springfield is the fact that it's known as a transportation hub, with the Springfield Interchange (more commonly known as the Springfield Mixing Bowl) and Metrorail stations located in the area.
