Happy Halloween from Lake Manassas, A Long Time Resident's Perspective

As a resident of Lake Manassas, I have to share that Halloween is and always has been a favorite tradition!  Residing in a gated community may be an advantage for the children of the community to roam free and with parental supervision.  I always marvel at the creative costumes and changes in the kids that come to my door trick or treating.  I watched my kids and their friends grow up and now I get to enjoy the same with my neighbors’ children.

Last year I ran a Halloween, Lake Manassas experiment.  I had a selection of chocolate candy available, to include non-peanut options and a selection of snacks, such as potato chips, pretzels, and Fritos.  It was amazing to see what options the kids would choose.  The younger kids, 8 year olds and under, went for the candy, hands down!  The older girls also favored the chocolate candy.  Boys over 10 gravitated towards the snack sized chip bags.  The boys would often open the chips and start munching on my front porch!  Gotta love that!  So while this study was non-scientific, it was fun for me to do.  I don’t have a teal pumpkin on my porch, but I am going to keep up with the tradition to make sure everyone can safely enjoy a Halloween snack!
